"The Faster They Run They More They Burn"

by Jennifer Bryan

I sit on the back steps to the house and watch Amber and the cousins play Marco Polo without the swimming pool. It is Amber's idea.  She blindfolds Rebecca, the cousin we like the least, with one of Sittah's babushkas.  The dogs jump at the scarf ties, snapping Rebecca's head back with each bite of fabric.  Amber asks if I want to play, and I tell her no, she yells, "Good.  We didn't want you to anyway."
