"Assumption"

by Jennifer Bryan

Gracie closes her eyes.  It's too late to be nostalgic.  She wishes he'd leave and go back to his rightful coffin with the white satin interior and ivory-inlaid handles.  She had wanted to go with the pine box.  No one was going to see a satin interior, Frank was dead, and he wouldn't have appreciated it if he'd been alive.  She would have buried him naked if the funeral home would have allowed it.  No reason to waste a good suit. It was just going to rot with the rest of him.  If he'd stay buried.
